History of Ram Tool & Supply, Inc.
Ram Tool & Supply, Inc. is a distributor to the contractor and industrial markets. In 1948 Charles A. Anderson Sr., his brother Donald and an associate, Philip McKown, started Ram Tool & Supply, Inc. As a CPA, Charles had developed a solid understanding of the financial requirements for running a business. The original product sold was a powder actuated tool sometimes known as a nail gun. In a short time the company also began selling electric power tools, air and hydraulic powered equipment, and the many accessories such as bits and blades, etc. In 1963 the brothers started Anderson Bros. Tool Repair as a complementary business in order to provide service for the tools they were selling.
In 1970 Charles A. (Bub) Anderson Jr. joined the company as a partner in the repair business. Bub, a graduate of Indiana University, had just finished four years in the Air Force where he attained the rank of captain. By 1973, Donald Anderson and Philip McKown had left the company. Bub had become majority owner of Anderson Bros. while Charles Sr. was sole owner of Ram Tool.
By 1974 the companies had grown too large for their original location and acquired a much larger, two building complex, where they remain today. The business continued to grow and in 1990, Charles Sr. passed away leaving both businesses to his son Charles Jr. (Bub). At this point Ram Tool was representing over 100 product lines and serving customers throughout the state of Indiana.
In 1996 the third generation, Charles A. (Andy) Anderson III, became a full time member of the company and a minority stockholder of Ram Tool, and a partner of Anderson Bros. Tool Repair. Andy had worked part time for the company prior to 1996 while he was attending Purdue and Indiana Universities. It was at this time the company decided to add a third dimension to the sales effort by adding a tool & equipment rental division. This allows for customers to enjoy complete service, sales, and rental of the products they needed for construction, manufacturing, and industrial maintenance.
